Saturday was a fun-filled, busy day! Bright and early, Stephanie and I set off to meet my sister to caravan to downtown Jackson. While waiting on her to finish getting ready, we went to next door neighbor's since there was a garage sale going on. Steph found what seemed to be the godfather of all cookie cutter sets. 100 pieces from everything between letters, dinosaurs, holiday shapes, vehicles, and odd animals! I found a great deal too! Igot 3 sets of brand new, unopened Christmas ornaments that will perfectly match my wreaths! Yippee!
When we finally go to our destination, we proudly sported out pink. Although, I have no pictures right now, I wish that you can imagine Shanna in a hot pink curly fro wig and knee high pink and white striped socks. She looked like one of the worst drags I've ever seen. God bless her little pink heart. Anyway, she also had a little red wagon, of which I had the opportunity to ride in. Thank you Stephanie and Shanna for pulling me for that long- even almost to my death.
Kudos to the leaders who were trying to get the crowds going that morning with dancing and music. But let's face reality... the party didn't start 'til we walked in. :) Discount Trophy Disco Divas had to be the most vigorous and energetic group at this event! I might be biased but I think everyone else agreed. We rocked with the Cupid Shuffle, we tried to wobble wobble, we showed off our Casper Slide Part 2, and we RODE THAT THAT TRAIN! Yes, we started the train and rode it all the way to the top of the steps of the capitol and contintued to show off our Disco Diva Dance moves. Beth, you are the Disco Queen, you dancing maniac!
Afterwards, thousands of women and men walked throughout the streets in honor and in memory of the ones who have been affected by breast cancer. I heard several stories from others about their loved ones who struggled with breast cancer. Some lost the fight, some had no hope, some had no way to get treatment, but some overcame it and survived. That's the reason we were all there- to help find a cure, to help others financially to get the treatment they need, to celebrate the lives of those who have been affected by it at one point or another, and to show breast cancer victims that we care! If you weren't there, please join us or support us next year! We are always looking for new Diva's!
The last thing I am going to mention is the dreaded dodgeball game. I don't like dodgeball. It's scary. It's super competitive with guys who aren't thinking straight because they will do anything to win. Why in the world they make this a co-ed sport, I have no idea. Nonetheless, the Disco Divas made another appearance at this Zip 39 sponsored tournament. We didn't win a single game, and I attribute this to only have one male player. All other teams were stacked with young athletic men who looked as if they were about to bite the head off of a bat to prove their masculinity. And, well, we Diva's just didn't match up in strength to these teams. But we looked good! So good, in fact, that we won best dressed award! Yay! Regardless of our good looks, I have to give you a good idea of what I went through. THREE times I was the last person standing on our team. I figured it was because of my mad dodging skills. Must have been because I only got out due to people catching my ball or once deflecting another ball with mine but then dropping it. Do you know how it feels to be standing opposite 6 scary looking guys who all have dodgeballs and are aiming at you? Do you know how it feels to be stared down by a relentless firing squad made up of men who don't care about you being a delicate female? All you are to them is a target. It felt like I was doe during deer hunting season. They didn't care! And did I mention that when I got out that one guy continued on without noticing and hit me with a ball anyways! They were cavemen! Terrible! My anxiety level was out the roof. Never again!
Will try to steal some pictures to post for you. Until then, Peace out! A-town down.
